Unpacking the Virgin/Whore in our Psyche

The masculine’s aspect of shame can be divided into Mother/Seductress or how it has been termed in history, Virgin/Whore.

Suppression of healthy, unadulterated, passion for the feminine in our culture has been born out of unhealthy repression of sexual desires during adolescence handed down by shame-filled ancestors. Religion has been founded on this premise for millennia so that the imprint in our minds becomes our internal jailer where we subordinate one psychic part over another. The repression is appearing from our internal reality now and doesn’t have to be maintained from our socialisation.

This is unfortunate because it means that the fullest expression of our sexual selves is unable to be realised without seeing that two tensions within the part of shame are being carried. Until these are seen in the light of their own individual being we need to play out the functions of both. In another way, repressing primary urges within ourselves and our experiences can then be used as a way to show loyalty to the sexless archetypical, pure Mother we are conditioned to perceive in our personal and collective psyche.

It takes a lot of delving to find the nitty gritty places where we block full exploration of pleasure not just sexually and sense-sationally, also in our overall attuned aliveness.
